Our founders are the brothers Donald and Tony Jarratt, who are equal members in the company, and have been in business together since 1965. Austral Marine can be traced back to their decision to start a boat building operation in 1978 as a sideline to their family business. Austral Marine itself was formed in 1986.

Our staff are carefully selected and specifically trained to work to our required high standard of quality workmanship and care. We focus on producing the best- quality boats possible, and our staff are trained and remunerated with this goal in mind.

We are committed to an approved Equity policy and believe that people who merit advancement, irrespective of colour or creed, will be given equal opportunity.

Our management team includes people of all races, all chosen and appointed based solely on their abilities and commitment to what we stand for and not on their colour.

We have a total staff complement of 135, and believe that together we are one of the happiest ‘families’ to be found anywhere.

We firmly believe that business is about relationships, and our compact dealer network has always appreciated our reputation for fair, honest dealing and sound business morals. Likewise we have been fortunate in working with the best dealers in the country and have been able to build strong honest relationships with them.

Our target market is the average family who seek pleasure and enjoyment in boating. We offer a range of boats that, although not suited to all pockets, are tailored to satisfying the needs of the discerning boat owner and family.

Computerised Plug and Pattern Making

Our computerised design studio and 3-Axis CNC router not only enhances and improves our own boat design and manufacturing process, but also allows us to offer our services to other markets and areas of manufacturing.

We are able to meet most machinery and tooling requirements including initial 3D computer design work, to tooling, cutting and fibre glass mould making. We cut a variety of materials including high density polystyrene and urethane foam, superwood, perspex and PVC. With a table size of 3 metres x 2 metres and a gantry height of just over 1 metre, we are able to take on small and large scale projects.

Recently completed projects include the cutting of polystyrene plugs for a surf ski and urethane plugs for a company who manufacture canopies for bakkies.
